What is the vision for Dasiqox?
Dasiqox is a proposed land, water and wildlife management area located about 125 kilometres west of Williams Lake, BC. Tŝilhqot’in have lived in this region for generations, and are responsible for caring for the land. This responsibility includes giving shape to the way the lands are managed, taking control of their economic livelihoods, and continuing to heal collectively as a people through cultural revitalization. The community vision reflects these aspirations.
In the face of ongoing pressure from the forest and mining industries in the region, Dasiqox is a proactive step being taken towards a more sustainable future for the region, one where Indigenous values and laws guide decisions affecting the land and water. Canada and BC have committed to implementing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and that means recognizing Tŝilhqot’in laws and the vision they have for this area.
